To preserve brain tissue and maximize lifelong brain health by reducing disease activity should be the main goals of treating multiple sclerosis (MS). As well as intervening early where possible, we recommend embracing a ‘brain-healthy’ lifestyle as part of a comprehensive approach to treatment. A brain-healthy lifestyle that includes keeping physically active, keeping your weight under control, keeping your mind active, not smoking, watching how much you drink and taking any medications prescribed for you, should be adopted, whatever your MS diagnosis.
